Joseki is an AI tutoring service for Alberta high-school students. A parent can choose to have Joseki text their child a short study rundown and a reminder ahead of an exam or assignment. This page is the whole of it: what we send, how often, who agrees to it, and how to stop.
The short version
Texts are off unless a parent turns them on. The parent enters the number and ticks the box; the student then confirms on the handset that will actually buzz, and nothing sends until both have agreed. Up to two messages a day. Replying STOP ends them immediately. There is no marketing or promotional message on this number, ever.
Who gets the messages
The student. The parent or guardian who holds the account enters the number and gives consent during account setup, on behalf of their child and for their child's own phone. An adult student on their own account consents for themselves.
What we send — and nothing else
- The daily study rundown. One or two a day, at the times the student themselves set on the rundowns screen. It is a knock on the door, not the rundown itself — two minutes on what got done and what is next.
- An event reminder. Ahead of an exam or an assignment the student put on their own calendar. The student chooses when it arrives — the evening before, three days ahead, or both — and whether it covers assignments as well as exams. Only exams, tests, quizzes, assignments and projects; never the personal events that sit on the same calendar.
Up to 2 messages per recipient per day, counted across both kinds together.
What they look like
Alex - time for today's rundown, 2 minutes. myaiteacher.ca/dashboard/rundown
Reply STOP to cancel.
Alex - Biology 20 exam is tomorrow. myaiteacher.ca/dashboard/exams
Reply STOP to cancel.
A student who asked for the earlier reminder gets the same message reading "is in 3 days" instead of "is tomorrow".
How a parent turns it on
Inside the parent account, on the student's own settings, there is a phone field and a checkbox beside it. The checkbox is unticked by default and reads:
I consent to Joseki sending study rundowns and assignment reminders by text to this number, which belongs to my child. Up to 2 messages per day. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel or HELP for help.
We store which parent ticked it, when, and the exact sentence they were shown — so a later change to this wording can never claim a consent nobody gave. The student is then asked the same question on their own phone, and until they answer it nothing is sent.
How to stop
- Reply STOP to any message. That number is closed immediately, and only the student texting START from the same handset can reopen it — a parent cannot turn it back on for them.
- Reply HELP for what this is and where to get help.
- Turn the setting off in the account, from either side. That deletes the number, it does not merely flag it.
Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies with the schedule the student set. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
The number itself
Mobile numbers are used only to deliver the two kinds of message described above. We do not sell them and we do not share them with third parties for marketing. See the privacy policy for the whole picture.
